You don't have to send a full booking request to start a conversation. **Message** on any DJ's profile opens a direct thread.

## Sending a first message

Select **Message**, type your question, and send. You'll need an account for this step.

A good opener gives them enough to answer usefully: your date, your venue or city, the occasion, and your actual question. "Are you free on 14 June for a wedding reception in Leeds, roughly 8pm to midnight?" gets a real answer. "Hi, are you available?" gets a question back.

## Good things to ask first

- Availability on your date, if you'd rather check before filling in a form
- Whether they've worked your venue
- Whether they do an extra you need that isn't on their profile
- Whether they'll take requests from guests, and how they handle them
- What their setup needs — power, space, a table
- Whether they can cover a specific moment, like a ceremony in another room

## Message or request?

**Message** for a quick question. **Book** when you want a quote — it captures your date, time, location, and extras in one go, which is what the DJ needs to price properly.

If you're fairly sure about a DJ, sending the request is faster than a conversation that ends with them asking for all the same details.

## Keep it here

It's worth resisting the move to WhatsApp or email, even when it feels easier. Everything agreed in DJfindr messages is on record, attached to the booking, and available if there's ever a disagreement about what was promised. A conversation in your personal texts isn't.

Profiles carry the warning for a reason: *never communicate or complete payments outside of the DJfindr website*. A DJ who pushes you to pay by bank transfer or cash is asking you to give up every protection the booking has. ## Don't send

Card numbers, bank details, or ID documents. No legitimate DJ needs them — payment goes through checkout.

## If they don't reply

DJs work evenings and weekends, so a day or two is normal. If you need an answer sooner, message two or three DJs at once — that's standard and expected.

## After you book

The conversation continues in the same place. Once you've booked, the thread is also attached to your event under the **Conversation** tab.
